Mamatha Nerlige, IUeMag ICON of the MONTH April 2015

Mamatha Nerlige
At an age when students are busy discovering theatres, booking dates for trips and justifying that it is time to enjoy life, a young lady of 19 years is busy serving the society. Be not shocked to know that she has impacted close to 50,000 people across Karnataka through her social initiatives. She is a second year engineering student pursuing her degree in Computer Science from SJMIT, Chitradurga. The lady who stands head and shoulders above the rest, is none other than Mamatha Nerlige!

Right from her school days, the toppers list on the school notice board never missed her name. She would strive her best to make it there at all costs which made her a person who was kept a watch of by many in her school. Mamatha was also the School Secretary in her 9th Grade and School Union Leader in her 10th Grade, because of her strikingly visible leadership qualities. She was a part of Guides and NCC, and finished A and B Certifications as well. In 2013, she was crowned as Miss Fort City and Miss Talent as well.

The turning point of her life was in her 2nd PUC when she got introduced to LEAD Deshpande Foundation, Hubli. She grabbed the opportunity to work as an intern in Deshpande foundation and has been a Speaker at LEAD talks. Since then, she has been actively working with the organization successfully executing 60+ Social Projects. She was awarded twice as the LEAD Ambassador and Social Media Ambassador.

In her first year of engineering, Mamatha joined i3 (A Conference based Program and a Change Driven Platform) as a part of which she took initiative to organize and execute 12 unique social projects under various sectors that demanded attention. She was nominated as The Delegate of the week twice for creating maximum impact through her projects. She is a TRUE IUITE which is the Highest Grade of Recognition in i3. She has been responsible for impacting close to 10,000+ people because of her projects in i3. She has been featured for her works in 5 different newspapers and telecasted in 4 different News Channels.

She says, "One of the best projects was to Guide SSLC students on how they could prepare for board exams and what they could do after SSLC".

She was also appreciated by District BEO Officers and Rotary Inner Wheel Club and invited as a Resource Person. Recently, she has been elected as the State General Secretary for NSUI (National Students Union of India)

"In the next 5 years I see myself as a role model for the girls living in rural areas as an inspiring personality and a Founder of an organization which would be working for development of the society and students," says Mamatha.
