Building Women for a Better World
Woman. Girl. Female. All of these terms aren't just definitions or branches of various gender kinds. It represents a person's sense of self and manner of life. And they are frequently discriminated against simply for being or identifying as a particular gender. Women are directly reliant on natural resources for their livelihood.
Women, particularly in rural areas, are expected to not only look after their children but also to provide them with all of the basics that they need to go long distances to obtain. It could entail acquiring food, fetching water, gathering wood for cooking, or sheltering using raw materials. Women play an unquestionably large part when it comes to the environment and its sustainability for future generations, as sustainable development is defined as using today's resources wisely while conserving them for the future. Women have been confined to the boundaries of their homes for many years, and they have been discriminated against when it comes to education and freedom. They are as well not recognized for the unpaid work and produce given over time. Women are not just seen as caregivers, but also as agriculturists who combine diverse aspects of their profession into their homes, businesses, and animal rearing. They are often silenced and given a back seat when the moment of decision-making comes in front of them. It is a fact today that the products and quantity are decided majorly by men even when the usage of the same is targeted at women.
Without women in the scene of development, these decisions can lead to major damage to not just the economic market, but also the environment. As women are on the front lines and face the brunt of climate change and environmental degradation, it is important for them to be a part of the decision-making process. Women make up fifty percent of the world's population, and they must be given the same amount of clarity and freedom to choose what might be affecting their lives in the future.
For this, Sustainable development acts as a wake-up call in terms of creating opportunities for women to speak up and express themselves on issues that affect them more than anybody else. Women control the majority of land and natural resources, according to several surveys. They do their work in the woods. They help to maintain natural equilibrium. Women are also in charge of selecting seeds, fertilizers, and insecticides, as well as maintaining a healthy soil environment for seedlings and plants to thrive in.
With just education, a woman who is ignorant and unaware that she is working towards sustainable development will become a major character in the advancement of development and sustainability not only within her household but also in the world around her, with the support of the education she deserves. They will be better consumers and producers as a result of the training they get, and land and resource quality will be maintained.
One such example that can show that women have an important role in sustainable development and environmental protection is by seeing the indigenous groups and communities around us. As researchers interested in sustainable development and living, we must and should learn from indigenous populations.
Typically, the female takes the lead in these societies, and it is seen that resources are restored on a regular basis, providing their society with enough resources to survive, and the natural world around them continues to provide and protect them from famine. The people in the community are given equal opportunities in selecting a job within and practicing what they believe in. When such freedom is granted to people, they develop a sense of responsibility to pay back what was provided to them. Such practices in indigenous groups must be adapted to maintain equilibrium in the present scenario.
Women play an important role in the education and socialization of their children, including teaching them about good governance and responsibility because they are seen as primary caregivers in societies that still believe in patriarchy and its belief system. It is not just the rural women who play a part in sustainable development, it is also urban women who are equally important when it comes to the conservation of resources.
Urban women are seen to have left their careers due to the stigma around family women. As women who have the talent and are not given equal pay and opportunity for work produced, they must stand up for themselves and teach the future generation the importance of equality, quality, and sustainability. It is only when they begin a discussion using the resources they are aware of, will women who are in remote areas learn a life that could be theirs if they make up the courage to express themselves.
In order for women to reach the horizon, it is necessary to educate them about their rights and responsibilities, as well as the social stigmas that they face and their role in the world's functioning. A woman can make or break anything given in her hands. And it is popular that when she is given something, she turns it into something beautiful and elegant, that can be used as well as consumed. Women can only take a step forward and claim what is rightfully theirs if such stigmas and biases are gone. It is only when women are provided their basics, will they use them to make and produce in front of the world that is beautiful and conserved. Therefore, numerous programmes aimed at them must be developed, as well as training to maintain the facilities given. This would not only raise their standard of living but also give them opportunities to break free from the oppression they have endured for ages. Giving women a voice leads to a more sustainable economy and a brighter future.
It is women who can uphold women. It will always be women who can understand their kind. It will be a woman who can make another one understand her importance in the world. And educating a woman is equal to educating a society. A happy woman makes a happy society to live in. When a woman takes on her responsibilities, she takes it upon herself to change and fulfill what is asked of her.
And when she is offered opportunities that were denied, she shines bright among all. For sustainable development, it is important for a woman to be present, to question, to argue, to discuss and to propose various strategies, and to use the knowledge passed on to her by her mother and the other women who were silenced for generations but knew the importance of the nature around them. It is that knowledge that will uphold us as a community and bring us closer to a home that is more blooming and thriving, robust and strong, and flourishing and greener.
