Complete List Of Recipients Of Padma Awards 2021

These awards recognize the achievement in fields or activities that involves an element of public service. As per the process, the nominations are taken in and the awards are conferred to the people recommended by the committee constituted by the Prime Minister every year.
The awards are conferred in three categories:
- Padma Vibhushan: Conferred for exceptional and distinguished service in a field/activity
- Padma Bhushan: Conferred for distinguished service of high order in a field/activity
- Padma Shri: Conferred for distinguished service in any field/activity
The Awards are given in fields of activities that include art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
This year (2021), the President has approved the conferment of awards to 119 people: 7 with Padma Vibhushan; 10 with Padma Bhushan; and 102 with Padma Shri Awards. Here is the complete list of Padma Awards Recipients:

1. Shri Shinzo Abe:

Country: Japan
Shinzo Abe is the Former Prime Minister of Japan and the longest-serving Prime Minister in the history of Japan. He served as the President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and as Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007 and then from 2012 to 2020. He has been honored with Padma Vibhushan for his service in Public Affairs.
2. Shri S P Balasubramaniam:

Renowned singer of Bollywood SP Balasubramanyam (Popularly known as SPB) had won six National Film Awards for ‘Best Playback Singer’ for his exemplary works spanning more than five decades of service to the film industry. He held a Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs in a day. He was a singer of more than 40,000 songs across four different languages- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. He died on September 25th, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.

Dr. Belle Monappa Hegde (BM Hegde as he is popularly known) is a renowned cardiologist, professor of medicine, and author. He is the former Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore. He has been the author of several books on medical practice and ethics.
4. Shri Narinder Singh Kapany (Posthumous):

Mr. Narinder Singh Kapany was an Indian-American physicist. He is best known as an inventor of fiber optics and is considered the 'Father of Fiber Optics' which has transformed communication and image quality. He had over 120 patents in his name from his work that encompassed Fibre Optics communications, lasers, biomedical instrumentation, solar energy, and pollution monitoring. He expired on December 4th, 2020 aged 94, and has been posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
5. Maulana Wahiduddin Khan (Posthumous)

Maulana Wahiduddin Khan was an Indian Islamic scholar who was considered among the 500 Most Influential Muslims of the world. He is also known for having written a commentary on the Quran translated Quran into contemporary English.
6. Shri B.B. Lal

State: Delhi
Mr. Braj Basi Lal (better known as B.B. Lal), is a renowned Indian archaeologist. He served as the Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from 1968 to 1972. Mr. B.B Lal has also served on various UNESCO committees. He has been honored with Padma Vibhushan, the 2nd highest Civilian honor for his works in the field of Archaeology.
7. Shri Sudarshan Sahoo

Mr. Sudarshan Sahoo is a renowned sculptor hailing from Odisha state in India. He has been a recipient of many awards for his work including the National Award for stone carving in 1981, the Padma Shri in 1988, the Shilp Guru Award in 2003, and the Dharmapada award by Odisha Lalit Kala Academy in 2012. He has also established the Sudarshan Crafts Museum in the year 1977 to exhibit his work and promote Arts.

Ms. Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra (popularly known as K. S. Chithra or Chithra) is a renowned Indian playback singer and Carnatic musician. She has recorded more than 25,000 songs in various South Indian languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and other languages like Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, etc. She has also recorded songs in foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese, English, and French.
2. Shri Tarun Gogoi (Posthumous):

Mr. Tarun Gogoi had served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016, becoming the longest-serving chief minister of the state. He passed away in November 2020 due to complications from Covid-19.
3. Shri Chandrashekhar Kambara

Mr. Chandrashekhara Kambara is a prominent poet, playwright, folklorist, film director in the Kannada language (in Karnataka, India), and the founder-vice-chancellor of Kannada University in Hampi also president of the Sahitya Akademi, the country's premier literary institution.
4. Ms. Sumitra Mahajan

State: Madhya Pradesh
Ms. Sumitra Mahajan is a politician who was the Speaker of Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019. She belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party, a political party in India. She is the longest-serving Woman Member of Parliament. She is the second woman after Meira Kumar to be elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Mr. Nripendra Misra was the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi from 2014 to 2019. He has also served as the chairperson of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Telecom Secretary of India, and Fertilizers Secretary of India.
6. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan (Posthumous)

Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan was a politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Paswan was also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party, a nine-time Lok Sabha member, and Rajya Sabha MP.
7. Shri Keshubhai Patel (Posthumous):

Mr. Keshubhai Patel was a politician who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1995 and from 1998 to 2001. He was a six-time member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly

9. Shri Rajnikant Devidas Shroff

Mr. Rajnikant Devidas Shroff is a businessperson and billionaire. He is the founder and chairman and UPL Limited. He is considered as India's 'Crop Protection King'. Mr. Rajnikant Shroff received the Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca (Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle) in September 2018. It is the highest Mexican order awarded by the Mexican government to foreigners in recognition of outstanding services to Mexico.
10. Shri Tarlochan Singh

Mr. S. Tarlochan Singh is a politician. He is a Member of the Parliament of India, representing Haryana. He served as Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities from 2003 to 2006; and he was a member of the National Human Rights Commission of India, Govt. of India, 2003 to 2006. He served as Vice Chairman, National Commission for Minorities from 2000 to 2003.

Ms. Anitha P is an Indian basketball player hailing from the Tamil Nadu state of India. She has been the captain of the India women's national basketball team for 8 years becoming the youngest captain at the age of 19. Anitha has a record of 30 medals in national championships to her credit including a gold medal in FIBA Asian Basketball Championship, South Asian Beach Games, and 3rd Asian Beach Games.
3. Shri Rama Swamy Annavarapu

Aged 95, Shri Rama Swamy Annavarapu is an Indian classical violinist from Andhra Pradesh, India. He is a renowned musician in the field of Carnatic music for his contributions. He has invented new Ragas and Talas such as Vandana Raga, Sri Durga Raga and Tinetradi Tala and Vedadi Tala.
4. Shri Subbu Arumugam

Shri Subbu Arumugam is an Indian musician. He is also a writer and Villupattu theatre art exponent. He is the author of 15 published books that contain Villu Pattu narratives, songs, short stories, and novels such as Veera Pandia Kattabomman. His notable works include Noolaga Villisai, Ramayanam, and Villisai Mahabharatham.
5. Shri Prakasarao Asavadi

Mr. Prakasarao Asavadi is an Indian poet and scholar known for his significant contribution to Telugu and Sanskrit literature through his poetry and prose. The most notable literary contribution is his literary performance of Avadhanam.
6. Ms. Bhuri Bai

Ms. Bhuri Bai is a Bhil artist belonging to the community of the largest tribal group of India called ‘Bhils’ in Madhya Pradesh. Bhil is considered to be one of the oldest tribal art forms. She has won many awards including Shikhar Samman, the highest state honor accorded to artists by the Madhya Pradesh government.
7. Shri Radhe Shyam Barle

Radhe Shyam Barle is a Panthi folk dancer and artist who has been awarded India's fourth-highest civilian award, the ‘Padma Shri’. He was awarded for his contribution to promoting the messages of Baba Guru Ghasidas through Panthi, a folk dance form in Chhattisgarh.

Mr. Dharma Narayan Barma is a Kamatpuri linguist. He hails from Cooch Behar, a city in West Bengal. He is known for his contributions towards promoting the Kamtapuri language which is a beautiful fusion of Bengali & Assamese languages.

Ms. Lakhimi Baruah is a banker who is the founder of Konoklata Mahila Urban Cooperative Bank for women, Assam's first women-run Cooperative bank. She has been awarded Padma Shri for contributions and efforts to financially empower the women of Assam.
10. Shri Biren Kumar Basak

Mr. Biren Kumar Basak is a Bengali businessman whose handloom saree business boasts of a clientele that includes renowned names like Mamata Banerjee (the Chief Minister of West Bengal), Sourav Ganguly, noted classical musician Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, among others. He used to sell sarees going door-to-door in the 1970s with his brother in Kolkata. and today his annual turnover is ?25 crores. At least 5,000 rural weavers work for him now.
11. Ms. Rajni Bector

Ms. Rajni Bector is a businesswoman who founded her company Mrs. Bector's Food Specialities. It is said that she started her business in her backyard with a meager investment of Rs.300 and grew it to the level that it has raised Rs.541 crores from the market. The IPO of her company was oversubscribed 198 times.

13. Ms. Sangkhumi Bualchhuak

Ms. Sangkhumi Bualchhuak has played an instrumental role in promoting education, enterprise, and legal reforms for women in Mizoram and empowered them. It was because of her movement that the State Law Commission has undertaken a review of several bills and amend them to provide legal protection to women.
14. Shri Gopiram Bargayn Burabhakat

Mr. Gopiram Burabhakat is a veteran Assamese folk musician who is known for growing the Sattriya traditional music for over 7 decades. He hails from the Majuli district in Assam.

Bijoya Chakravarty is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling political party in India. He was a Member of the Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2019 and a Member of the Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004.
16. Shri Sujit Chattopadhyay

'Master Moshai' as he is popularly known, is a 77-year-old village school teacher. He has been working tirelessly for decades to spread education, especially amongst tribal students. He has been teaching alphabets and basics of other subjects for Rs.2 to more than 350 tribal children.
17. Shri Jagdish Chaudhary (Posthumous)

Mr. Jagdish Chaudhary was popular for his work as Domraja (who light funeral pyres) of Varanasi. He worked towards social harmony and he was the one to propose the name of PM Modi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
18. Shri Tsultrim Chonjor

State: Ladakh
Mr. Tsultrim Chonjor is considered a hero. This hero from Ladakh constructed a 38-km road to connect remote villages situated in Kargil. The regions connected through the roads he built include Kargyak village in the Zanskar valley of the Ladakh region, Darcha village in tribal Lahaul, and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh and Shinku La. He got the road constructed from May 2014 to June 2017. He spent Rs. 57 lakh from his own pocket and sold his ancestral property for the construction of the road.
19. Ms. Mouma Das

Ms. Mouma Das is an Indian Table Tennis player who has won several medals at the CWG and gold at a team competition in 2018. Mouma Das has also been awarded Arjuna Award in 2013 for her contribution to the sport.

Mr. Srikant Datar is an Indian-American economist and the Dean of Harvard Business School succeeding another Indian Mr. Nitin Nohria. He became the 2nd consecutive person of Indian origin to occupy the chair of Dean in a prestigious institution like Harvard.
21. Shri Narayan Debnath

Mr. Narayan Debnath is an Indian comics artist, writer, and illustrator popular for his Bengali comic series like Handa Bhonda (1962), Batul The Great (1965), and Nonte Phonte (1969). Handa Bhonda has completed its 53 years of running, thus becoming the longest-running comics by an individual artiste.
22. Ms. Chutni Devi

Women in the region of Jharkhand were subject to a lot of witch-hunting. Ms. Chutni Devi single-handedly saved 60 women from Witch-hunting. She is also famously called the 'Tigress' for her acts of bravery. She has created awareness in her village and the neighboring ones and would continue to do so.

Ms. Radhe Devi is an 88-years old Potloi Setpi Weaver from Manipur. She is keeping the art of 'Potloi' alive. Potloi Setpi is a form of traditional bridal wear designing. She has created more than 1,000 bridal wear being in the profession for the past 58 years.
25. Ms. Shanti Devi

Ms. Shanti Devi is famous for her contribution towards restoring peace in the Maoist-affected areas in Odisha. She leads Seva Samaj, a voluntary organization, and also has founded an ashram at Gobarapalli in the Rayagada district. She worked towards the development and education of tribal girls to make them self-sufficient.

Mr. Wayan Dibia is Bali's most influential Kecak Dancer and Scholar. Kecak is a traditional Indonesian art form depicting chapters of the Ramayana.

Mr. Namdeo C Kamble is a Marathi writer, journalist, and teacher from Vidarbha. Mr. Rajat Kumar Kar is an eminent author, play-writer, commentator, and administrator. He was the commentator for Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra festival as well. He has authored 7 non-fiction books and is popularly known for writing Upendra Bhanja literature.
39. Shri Rangasami Lakshminarayana Kashyap

Rangasami Lakshminarayan Kashyap is an Indian applied mathematician and a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He, along with Harvard professor Yu-Chi Ho developed the Ho-Kashyap rule that is proved to be an important algorithm in pattern recognition.

45. Ms. Sanjida Khatun

Ms. Sanjida Khatun is a musicologist from Bangladesh. Ms. Sanjida was one of the founders of Bangladesh Mukti Sangram Shilpi Sangstha during the Liberation War in 1971 and Chhayanaut in the early 1960s. She served as the president of Chhayanaut, an organization to promote the cultural and musical heritage of Bengal.
46. Shri Vinayak Vishnu Khedekar

Mr. Rattan Lal is an Indo-American soil scientist. He has been awarded Padma Shri for his work in soil conservation across 4 continents. He is also a winner of the World Food Prize. He was awarded a 'for the sustainable soil management for global food security and mitigation of climate change’ Prize in Japan in 2019.
50. Shri Ali Manikfan

Mr. Ali Manikfan is an Indian marine researcher, ecologist, shipbuilder, and polyglot. He is honored with Padma Shri for his research skills in the marine, ecology, and agricultural fields without any formal educational qualification. Through his marine research, while working with CFMR, he discovered a rare fish that has since been named after him - Abudefduf Manikfani.
51. Shri Ramachandra Manjhi:

Mr. Ramchandra Manjhi is a Bhojpuri folk dancer and theatre artist from Bihar, India. He was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2017 for his work as a Launda Naach performer and as a member of Bhikhari Thakur's drama team.
