Their parts are pretty interchangeable except for barrels, slides, frames, blocks, specific springs, and rods. Both of these are generation 4 series, and their size is a bit smaller than their predecessors.
If you want to build Glock 17 or Glock 19 yourself, you can purchase a polymer 80 Glock to build your gun from the comfort of your own home.To choose between these two, you need to figure out which features are you looking for? For what purpose do you need it? What experience do you already have with handguns? Below we have mentioned significant differences between these two handguns to help you decide.

These significant differences are:

1. Size and Dimensions:

Glock 19 is a bit smaller in grip and barrel than Glock 17. The weight of Glock 17, with or without a magazine, is higher compared to Glock 19, as well as height (that's a measure of the top of the slide to the bottom of the baseplate). However, the width of the grip, width across control, and the trigger pull are the same for both Glocks. The 19 has slighter more recoil due to its dimensions.

Muzzle Velocity of both Glock varies, with Glock 17 having 1230 ft/s while Glock 19 having 985-1500 ft/s.

3. Accuracy:

Glock 17 is in standard style, whereas Glock 19 is in compact style. Due to its long barrel, Glock 17 has more accuracy and perfect aim, but accuracy is more dependent on the user's skills thanon a gun. Glock 17 and Glock 19 both are used for law enforcement in addition to criminal and military forces in many countries due to a reasonable accuracy index.

4. Magazine and Cartridge:

The magazine used for Glock 17 can be used in Glock 17 and Glock 19 both. In the same way, both have 9×19mm cartridge dimensions, but the barrel length and standard magazine capacity of both of these vary.

The variants available for Glock 17 are:

  • Glock 17, 17c, 18, 18c

The variants of Glock 19 are:
  • G19 gen1, gen2, gen3, gen4

Glock 17, due to its simple operation and easy handling by both men and women, is considered a home defense pistol. This is a go-to gun if you are looking for target shooting and competitions.
Glock 19, due to its small size and grip, is preferable for a shooter with small hands. Glock 19 works as a duty gun, and it is considered to be able to serve almost any role.
