Infocus International Announces Updated Dates for the LNG Supply, Demand, Pricing & Trading Online Course
Infocus International Group has updated the schedule for the highly acclaimed LNG Supply, Demand, Pricing & Trading online training, set to commence on February 20th & July 2nd, 2024.
The global LNG sector has undergone significant transformations in the early 2020s, responding to the influence of COVID-19, the Ukraine war, and the energy transition. From a low of $2/MMBtu in 2020 due to the COVID crisis, LNG and natural gas prices surged to over $70/MMBtu in 2022, driven by Europe's increased demand following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, 2023 was a year of fewer shocks, with prices stabilizing at around double the 2019 level. LNG supply and demand growth slowed to under 2% from 5% in 2021-2022, influenced by high prices and economic growth deceleration.
The outlook for supply growth is more promising, with major liquefaction projects in Qatar, USA, Canada, and Russia scheduled to come online between 2024-2028, adding over 200 mtpa of liquefaction capacity to the 470 mtpa in operation at the end of 2023. While some operating plants may experience output declines, overall supply and demand are expected to increase from 402 mtpa in 2023 to 625 mtpa by 2030. Projects with a total capacity of over 400 mtpa are in the planning stage, with developers of over 100 mtpa of capacity targeting FID by the end of 2024. However, uncertainty exists regarding how many of these projects will be required to meet long-term demand as governments target net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or 2060.
The online course, spanning 6 sessions, will discuss the challenges facing the LNG business as it aims to meet consumer needs until 2050. It will focus on commercial issues, covering technology and shipping.
