Possibilities of 3D printing - The 2nd edition of the 3D Design & Engineering Conference

3D Design and Engineering Conference
What is more important for 3D Printing, a good 3D Printer or a well-designed 3D Model?

The 2nd edition of the 3D Design & Engineering Conference, at Designhuis, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, will bring together designers and engineers to debate and discuss the design challenges from different perspectives using 3D Printing.

The conference will focus on topics such as Reverse engineering of 3D products, Virtual Engineering, Visualisation tools, 3D design & 3D engineering tools, Validation, Postprocessing, essential for 3D printed products and many more.

Speakers from Shapeways, Philips Industry Consulting, Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing (ACAM GmbH), Stratasys, TNO, ShareMy3D, Louwers IP|Technology Advocaten, EDS Innovation, Metal Technics 3D, Sirris and ShapeDiver will share their views and knowledge on the topics of interest.

Insights into the speakers' presentations:

  • Dr. Kristian Arntz, Head of department Laser Materials Processing at Fraunhofer IPT /Managing Partner at ACAM Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing GmbH, about “Connected Adaptive Production – From design to final parts. How CAx Integration can connect Conventional and Additive Manufacturing”: "While processes, material availability and productivity are getting adult, a crucial lack remains unsolved: realizing integrated IT infrastructures in order to bring together conventional and additive manufacturing. It is not only a question of data formats that has to be solved – it is about connected, adaptive process chains which are needed in future facilities."
  • Thomas Bossuyt, Mechanical Engineering (Founder), Metal Technics 3D, about “Metal AM Design Rules, what every mechanical design engineer should know!”: "A metal 3D printer is just like a CNC milling machine – a tool that executes what it is instructed to do. Thus, the only step in the process affecting the quality of the final printed product is the design and the engineering. Therefore it is extremely important to understand and respect the technologies limitations while making a design. The presentation will highlight the design rules for metal AM and more important, the reason behind it. This is the only way to fully understand and utilize the different design rules in the right way."
  • Kaye Hope, COO, ShareMy3D, about “Cloud-Based Communication for 3D Content”: "Cloud-based solutions can enable fast and secure communication of information, including complex 3D data. Let’s consider how work processes and communication streams can be improved by finding common platforms for sharing 3D information."
