So, ready to learn how to create an environment friendly office? Let's start.
There are lots of things you can do to go green at your business. Some of which we think are basic, easy to achieve and can make a good start are:
1. Switching Off Appliances
Turning off electrical appliances when they are not in use helps save money on energy costs while it saves energy itself. We spend around £30 a year leaving electricals on stand-by, rather than turning them off at the socket. When you’re running a business, even a small saving each year can make a difference in the long run. Imagine a 100 terminals swtiched on for few hours for no apparent use, they can mean costs that add up to salaries of many a people over a period of time.
2. Changing Computer Settings
Simply reducing the brightness of your PC monitor from 100% to 70% can save up to a fifth of the total energy used by your computer. If each individual at office can mostly be aware of this, it would result in a solution with high impact over long run.
3. Get Good At Recycling
Try setting up recycle bins within the office to encourage people to responsibly dispose their bottles, cans or other trash. You’ll be surprised at how much of office waste can be recycled. You can even recycle printer ink cartridges as some manufacturers, such as Lexmark UK, offer their own initiatives to reduce the amount of waste plastic being thrown into landfill.
4. Control The Temperature
Keeping windows open saves more money than use of air conditioners. One should also ensure that doors are closed during cold weather and make sure drafts are blocked up. Besides, you could encouraging staff to wear warmer clothes in colder weather.
5. Use Natural Sunlight
Instead of using artificial lighting, natural light can be used to reduce energy consumption. Be sure to avoid using any office lamps that still have the traditional incandescent bulbs being used and ensure they are all converted to LED lightbulbs. You can quickly recoup what you spent on the bulbs, which can be fairly expensive, with the resulting lower energy bills.
6. Use Duplex Printing
To cut the amount of paper that gets wasted, always prefer printing double-sided. The Lexmark MS517dn and the HP printer model M477fdw both boast this feature, and can help you to reduce energy consumption. Choosing a printer with this setting & ability can mean you can instantly cut the volume of paper your office would end up using, almost by one-half. Reducing waste of paper is a direct impact on contribution to environment and helps cut costs at the company in the long run.
