How to Remove Coffee Stains From Teeth at Home

Coffee and other dark coloured drinks, especially tea and wine, have compounds called “tannins”, which are naturally occurring in many plants or plant-based products and are one of the biggest culprits when it comes to teeth discolouration.
How to remove coffee stains from teeth
Sorry coffee lovers, we know how important that morning cup (or 5) of coffee is, but this dark beverage is one of the worst things for your teeth. Teeth are extremely porous, with small ridges, cracks, and pits that absorb everything they come into contact with.

As a rule of thumb, the darker the beverage (sodas too!), the more likely they are to stain your teeth, especially if left to set over time and with daily consumption. Even if you use milk or creamer, those tannins are still present and pose a risk for tooth discoloration. Luckily, we’ve put together a few tips and tricks to help prevent coffee stains from setting and keep your teeth healthy and white.

  • Water – While nothing can completely prevent getting coffee stained teeth (except not drinking coffee), drinking and rinsing with water while drinking coffee and after can reduce the impact it has on your teeth. Water helps clean out the pores on your teeth to help prevent the stains from setting.
  • Brush & Floss – It extremely import to brush and floss throughout the day if you are going to drink coffee. Like with water, brushing and flossing helps prevent the stains from setting and reduces the build up of plaque and bacteria.
  • Routine Cleanings – Get your teeth cleaned professionally at least twice a year to help remove layers of plaque and keep your teeth clean and healthy. Stains build up over time, regardless of how well your teeth are maintained on a day-to-day basis.
  • White Strips - Already have coffee stains or just want a whiter smile? There are plenty of affordable teeth whitening products that are effective in removing stains in the comfort of your own home, at work, or anywhere else!

At the end of the day, you only get one set of adult teeth and it's important to care for them by maintaining good oral health. After all, everyone loves a beautiful white smile!
