How to follow your passion

After years of shifting from one job to the other, and from trying to fit in to different industries with completely different roles and after working in several different countries, I can definitely say that the only way to truly succeed in life is by doing something that you're truly passionate about. That being said, I am now really close to finally finding my calling in life in terms of career. I finally made the shift from a conventional office job to becoming a freelancer and working on my own terms. I can't exactly say that I am there yet, but I feel that I am very close to reaching my career goals. Below are a few tips that I found helpful when seeking my dream career.
How to follow your passion
Brainstorming

I once read a book called the 4 hour workweek by Tim Ferris which explained how to best find your passion. It talked about putting together your thoughts on a piece of paper in a table format and assessing the likelihood of success of each. I soon enough created my own version of this: I created a table. In the row headers I inserted my dream jobs and in the column headers I inserted several success factors such as my skills with relation to the job, the potential profitability of the job itself and the resources needed to make this dream job a reality. It might have taken a bit of brainstorming and trial and error but at the end, I was closer than ever to my dream career.

Persistence

Steve Jobs once said “If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.”
The truth is, you will go through a lot of ups and downs, you will change your mind a million times, you will think you want something, just to try it and realise that it's not at all what you want to be doing with your life. That's when it pays to be patient and persistent. If you are going to give up at every bad turn, you will rarely make it to your goal. Seek Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Who should you ask? It's always good to listen to what the people who are the most close to you have got to say. They probably know you the best and thus might give you advice based on their knowledge of your character. Then again, if you are seeking a specific type of career advice or else you are not content with the advice of those around you, a mentor or else a career coach might be a perfect idea. Here is a guide to finding a life coach that is well suited for you.

Finally, following your passion is not an easy task. It can involve a great deal of risk, as well as hard work and persistence. On the other hand, if you truly take that road and succeed, the rewards will dazzle you. Confucius once said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I found this to be very true.
