Not You
A poem that helps you realise that everyone deserves their space, share of appreciation, respect and thoughtful empathy. After all, this universe has brought all of us into this world without the same DNA, finger prints or looks. It's important that we understand the system within is also wired to be extremely unique and different. Respect is best we could exchange in lieu of the same. Tweet your comments to #NotYou
The person you just laughed at for their stupidity,
may have never thought to behave so in the first place.
The person you just jeered at for their silly jokes,
may have cracked it with an intention to bring a smile on others' face,
Accept them for who they are, remember they are just not you.
The people whose dressing styles you question
may be comfortable in what they wear.
Being stylish is what you admire, simplicity is what they love
accept them for who they are, remember they are not you.
The person whom you point fingers at for their short hair
may have battled a sickness about which you have never heard.
The one you laugh at for long unmanaged hair,
may have put toiling efforts behind maintaining that.
Accept them for who they are, remember they are not you.
That person whom you keep mocking at for being fat,
may have cried out loud in solitude due to depression.
That skinny guy you keep pushing away,
may have stuffed himself with food to look the way you want.
Accept them for who they are, remember they are not you.
Those people you complain about for not being talented enough,
may be good in those things which you have never ever dipped your hands into.
Appreciate what they do, remember they are not you.
may have struggled to walk in pointed heels to look tall.
That girl you laugh at for being too tall,
may have bent her back to look short.
accept them for who they are, remember they are not you.
That lady whom you constantly pressurize to bear kids,
may have lost a child and wants time for her heart and womb to relax.
That young lady who refuses to have children may have had a past too terrible to mention.
Respect them for their decisions, remember they are not you.
That mother whom you look down at saying she is dependent,
may have sacrificed her career to take care of her family.
That working woman whom you term inefficient,
may be the sole bread winner of her family.
Respect them for who they are, remember they are not you.
That person whom you term as too loud,
may have struggled unbearably & is holding on to a very rough past.
Those people whom you criticize for being shy,
may have been brought up totally unlike you.
Understand them, remember they are not you.
God created each person differently,
accepting each one, the way they are,
is a quality so rare and unique.
Love every one around for the way they are,
For, remember they are not YOU, just not YOU!
